TAIWAN - Taiwan is poised to extend compulsory military service from four months to a year, the island's president, Tsai Ing-wen, has said on Tuesday. He called the decision “incredibly difficult” but necessary, amid heightened tensions between Taipei and Beijing. Speaking after a national security council meeting, the president of the self-governed island stated that the change is expected to enter into force in 2024.
EUROPE - The European Union has little chance of staving off power outages amid the energy crunch exacerbated by the Ukraine conflict, and should brace for its impact, Austrian Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner warned on Tuesday. Speaking to Die Welt, the minister evaluated the possibility of blackouts in some parts of the EU as “very high” in the near future. “The risk of a widespread power failure has once again increased significantly as a result of the Ukraine war,” she said.
EUROPE - Would you like to pay a carbon tax every time that you turn your heater on? What about every time that you fill up your vehicle with gasoline? Incredibly, this will soon be what life is like in Europe. When I first heard that the EU plans to impose direct carbon taxes on individuals, I thought that it must be just another false Internet rumor. But it isn’t a false rumor. News sources in Europe are reporting on it, and you can find information about this plan on the official website of the European Parliament. I don’t know why the corporate media in the United States is not talking about this, because this is an enormous story.
MIDDLE EAST - Israel is readying to uncork the Hashemite Kingdom of Palestine genie at the United Nations – ending UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Process Torr Wennesland’s’ efforts to keep the Hashemite Kingdom of Palestine Solution (Saudi Solution) from being discussed as a replacement for the failed UN 20 years-old two state solution.
JORDAN - The ancient rock city of Petra has been flooded after a freak rainfall lashed the archaeological site, forcing evacuations. Water from nearby mountains in Jordan gushed into the iconic rose-red city which has been standing for 2,000 years. An estimated 1,700 tourists and locals were ordered to evacuate the area for their safety, after 13 were killed in similar flooding at the site in 2018.
SWITZERLAND - Prior to its upcoming conference in Davos next month, the World Economic Forum (WEF) appears to have joined the cancel campaign against Twitter, taking to recommending Chinese state-controlled social media apps to “follow along” with Davos Man into the future. Twitter is noticeably absent from the entities listed on the organization’s “How to follow Davos 2023” social media pamphlet, and that appears to be no accident.
CHINA - The US intentionally hypes up the “China threat” as an excuse to boost its military spending, all in an effort to maintain its global dominance, the Chinese Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday, after President Joe Biden signed the 2023 US National Defense Authorization Act into law. “Facts have proved more than once that the US is the direct threat to the international order and the culprit of the regional turbulence,” stated the ministry’s spokesman, Colonel Tan Kefei.
IRAN - Revolutionary Guards missile units would hit targets in Israel ‘within 7 minutes of an attack,’ then follow up with 2nd wave of rockets, according to state television video The remarks were followed by footage showing multiple launches of surface-to-surface missiles and impacts on the ground as Shadlou predicted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps would launch barrages of solid-fuel missiles that “in less than seven minutes will destroy their targets with great accuracy.”
ITALY - Italy is engaged in 36 international missions divided into 20 countries. Italian military missions are divided into international missions (OFCN) and national missions. The international ones are inserted in NATO, UN and EU contexts, at the moment there are 36 active missions and they are located in 20 different countries, with a considerable commitment of men and means. Furthermore, since Russia invaded Ukraine, NATO missions in Eastern European countries have been strengthened to ensure greater security on the borders of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union.
SERBIA - Serbia has put its security forces on the border between the two countries on “full operational readiness” amid tensions with neighboring Kosovo, a senior Serbian official said, despite calls from the European Union and NATO to ease tensions between the two former wartime foes. The country de-escalates the current tension. Serbian Defense Minister Vucevic said in a statement later on the 26th, “Serbian President Vucic ordered the Serbian army to enter the highest level of combat readiness, that is, the level of use of force.”
UK - The last two weeks we have spent some time looking at the health insurance industry with particular focus on the campaign of… ahem, injections. The UK government now oddly admits that vaccines have damaged the natural immune systems of those who have been double-vaccinated.
FRANCE - Suicide? How some life insurance companies are dealing with experimental vaccines deaths. The first insurance companies may well be the first to bring this into the open as they’ve real money at stake, and I can’t see them coughing up for claims which threaten their existence. Here, take a look… over in the land of the guillotine (France) an insurance company has been backed up in court after refusing to pay out a life insurance policy after the insured died from the vaccine.
UK - Broccoli is a branchy green vegetable that can have purple or typically green flower buds. They belong to the Brassicaceae family, along with cauliflower, cabbage and kale. They can be eaten raw or cooked. A study of Nutrition Research found that regular consumption of steamed broccoli reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. Don’t eat broccoli with yellow flowers. They should not be eaten because in this case they are vegetables that have gone bad. In the most extreme cases, the presence of mould can also be found in small patches. Just when you notice moulds you have to pay close attention. In this case, one could encounter food poisoning.
UK - War, inflation and three Prime Ministers. Who knows what's coming next? How will history remember the past 12 months? For many of us, 2022 will always be the year that brought an end to the longest reign in British history: a year of mourning and thanksgiving, as we bade farewell to our late Queen, Elizabeth II, the embodiment of patriotic duty.
USA - The water wranglers of the West are struggling to save the Colorado River (with the second biggest reservoir in the USA). Farmers, bureaucrats, and water negotiators converged on Caesars Palace, in Las Vegas, to fight over the future of the drought-stricken Southwest. In mid-December, I drove to Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir, to see its infamous bathtub ring. The bathtub, in this metaphor, is Lake Mead, the ring is a chalk-white coating of minerals that its receding waters have left behind. It serves as a daily reminder of the hundred and fifty-eight feet of water that is no longer there.
