USA - Hundreds of teenagers flooded into Downtown Chicago on Saturday night, smashing car windows, trying to get into Millennium Park, and prompting a major police response. At least one person in a car was attacked. Shots were fired near the corner of Madison and Michigan, and FOX 32 Chicago decided that it was unsafe to keep our news crew on the scene. Two teens were wounded by gunfire in the crowds in the first block of East Washington Street. A 16 and 17-year-old boy were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition with gunshot wounds.
USA - New York City’s storefront businesses, already weathering inflation and an uneven recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, are also contending with what the police say is a dramatic increase in shoplifting. But statistics also reveal a startling reality: A relative handful of shoplifters are responsible for an outsize percentage of retail crime. Nearly a third of all shoplifting arrests in New York City last year involved just 327 people, the police said. Collectively, they were arrested and rearrested more than 6,000 times, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said.
USA - Much of the Mid-South is bracing for tornadoes and severe weather tonight. Unconfirmed tornadoes have already been reported around St Louis. However, the National Weather Service says there have not been any touchdowns. Soccer fans were told to evacuate a stadium and power is out to tens of thousands in the St Louis area.
GERMANY - Germany is failing to live up to its NATO commitments both in terms of personnel and equipment it can provide for the military bloc’s defense, Bild has reported. The media outlet, citing an internal appraisal by the nation’s Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr, claimed that a lack of funding, as well as Berlin’s military aid to Kiev, are among the reasons for the current state of affairs. The report published on Tuesday claims to be based on a 14-page analysis sent by Inspector of the Army Alfons Mais to Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Carsten Breuer in early March.
AUSTRALIA - A new Victorian law which forces mothers and fathers to accept their children's desire to change gender has left distraught parents fearing prosecution if they do anything to try to prevent potentially harmful and irreversible treatment. So far-reaching is the new law that even trying to arrange counselling and expert assessment for their kids could lead to parents - and the mental health professionals - being prosecuted if the advice did anything other than affirm the children's newly-discovered gender dysphoria.
USA - Despite relentless attacks from leftists, pro-life groups and institutions can take comfort in the fact that the decision to overturn Roe v Wade has helped save the lives of thousands of babies. According to a new report from the Society of Family Planning, since the Dobbs decision, “compared to the average monthly number of abortions observed in the pre-Dobbs period, there were 32,260 cumulative fewer abortions from July to December [2022].”
UNITED NATIONS - A new report from the United Nations has called for all forms of drug use and sexual activity to be decriminalized globally. While on the surface, it may seem relatively uncontroversial, the report calls for sex between adults and minors to be decriminalized, so long as the minors “consent”: Minors, of course, cannot truly consent to sex with an adult — something these so-called experts should know. The report also calls for all criminal laws relating to sex work to be abolished, which could easily serve to aid traffickers, pimps, and abusers. In turn, this serves the abortion industry as well, which has aided traffickers and abusers by failing to report suspected abuse and returning victims to their abusers after their abortions.
USA - Last summer the Biden regime was pushing an amendment to the international health regulations administered by the UN World Health Organization that would have given the WHO the power to dictate US policy whenever there is a declared “public health emergency of international concern.” But now the Biden regime is back at it, as Hoft reminds us, “pushing for this insane action to destroy Americans’ rights once and for all.” The Biden regime publicly affirmed their commitment to a “legally-binding” Pandemic Accord in a press release in February which will give the World Health Organization (WHO) control over US pandemic policies, though work remains in certain areas.
USA - Torrents and torrents of rain have drowned thousands of acres of farmland in California’s Central Valley this winter and resuscitated a lake that vanished decades ago. As far as the eye can see, water stretches to the horizon — across roads, across crop fields, through homes and buildings. Now, the massive snowpack that piled up on the Sierra Nevada this winter is a dripping time bomb. As it melts, the flood could triple in size by summer, threatening the surrounding communities and costing billions in losses.
USA - It's a once-thriving area packed with the headquarters of technology giants including Uber, Airbnb, Yelp, Square and Twitter. The only problem for the folks at Joe & The Juice — and for San Francisco in general — is that there are so few people actually in them. The undeniably beautiful 'City by the Bay', which for years was the one destination on America's West Coast that tourists missed at their peril, is now a must-see in a rather different way — as a bleak warning of what could kill cities around the world as they struggle to cope with the lingering economic legacy of the pandemic and the flight from offices. For San Francisco is falling into what economists call an 'urban doom loop', essentially a vicious circle of interconnected trends and forces that send cities spiralling into economic and social ruin.
USA - We are closer to a war with China than most people realize. Right now, US officials in Washington are deeply concerned that the Chinese may impose a full-blown blockade on Taiwan as the first step in a “reunification” campaign. Many Americans don’t realize that such a move would be a really, really big deal. If China chooses to blockade Taiwan, the US and China would instantly be in a state of war. All of a sudden, the flow of high-end computer chips from Taiwan would completely stop. And all of a sudden, the flow of products that we import from China would completely stop. In other words, our standard of living would be radically altered for the foreseeable future.
CHINA - China just expanded wartime military draft to include veterans and college students signaling they may be preparing for global conflict. Beijing this week announced revisions to its conscription policy and said that should China enter a state of war, veterans and educated college students can expect to be on top of the list to be drafted. China has positioned these changes as a necessary step to modernize the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and to bolster its combat effectiveness. However, adding the nation’s most educated as priority draftees runs counter not only to traditional Western conscription practices, but China’s as well. “It fits into the context of PLA modernization,” Heino Klinck, former deputy assistant secretary of defense for East Asia and military attaché to China, told Fox News Digital.
CHINA - China’s oil and gas giant Sinopec announced on Wednesday that it had signed a deal with QatarEnergy, which manages the nation’s prodigious supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG), to become a shareholder in the latter’s North Field East (NFE) expansion project, granting China unprecedented control over an LNG source.
USA - The plan is to take away control of all your cash. In the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen the news of banks collapsing in America and around the rest of the world. First, Silicon Valley bank, then Silvergate, Credit Suisse, and more. These bank collapses have paved the way for the government to take control. They’ve already begun taking advantage with a pilot program called Regulated Liability Network US Pilot. It’s designed to weaponize the government’s control over your money.
USA - In talking this week with a friend about the United States seemingly imploding from within across multiple sectors, my friend stressed: “It’s not just from within. There is a run on the United States from certain nations and business interests around the world. Just like there was a run on banks after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, many nations are either thinking about — or actually proceeding with — transferring at least a portion of their allegiance, assets and commitments from the ‘Bank of the US’ to the ‘Bank of China’ or elsewhere.”
